Ho Ho Poe with Quoth the Raven

This post is brought to you with mixed feelings. I will be moving in the new year sometime and have had to put the majority of my craft room stash into storage. Boo Hoo! So this might well be one of the last posts for a while.
I have taken leave of absence from my other DT positions until I am in a place to start creating again.

In the meantime, as GDT for Quoth the Raven, I have this triptych made with ATC sized stampbord pieces. It features rubber stamps from Smeared Ink "Quoth the Raven" and "Gothic Christmas" on the inside and crafters' companion on the outside. Much use was made of my pan pastels, in fact the only thing that was not was the actual tree, Poe, pressies and Raven stamping.

 The ivy leaves are a Sheena Douglass die cut from black card and given a lick of gilding waxes in silver, empire and renaissance golds.

Anything Goes at Smudgy Antics

Hi there peeps. It's the last week of not only this Anything Goes challenge at the Smudgy Antics blog but also the last challenge on the blog. All future challenges will be held within the Challenger section of the Smeared and Smudged ning forum.  It's free to join and so much going on with all the new stuff, as well as old favourites, it's well worth a visit or four.
My piece for this week is a variation on the Christmas Wreath. I used the Smeared Ink rubber stamps from the "Gothic Christmas" collection.

The images were stamped using Stazon onto felt, cut out and glued to the prepared wreath.

The wire ring base was first wrapped with wadding and strips of hessian on top of that a couple of retaining stitches held it all in place.
Some colour was added with fineliners. I was not about to use my promarkers near the stazon ink.
Some felt mistletoe added with a little bow and a grosgrain ribbon hanging loop before topping off with that fabulous reindeer head.

Anything Goes at Smudgy Antics

I don't know about you but when the theme of any challenge is an "Anything Goes" my mind goes blank. So many things I could make. What do I want to make? What do I need to make? So many questions swimming around in this empty  noddle of a head. That very theme is the new challenge over at Smudgy Antics for the next two weeks. So, what am I to make? I ended up making a simple tag. One for the different and like-minded friends I love.
I used the Gothic Christmas rubber set from Smeared Ink.

I cut a simple tag from rich red card stock and heat embossed the tree on it with black powder. The bat and wreath was stamped into clear hot glue. When cool, this was dusted with a mixture of perfect pearls and pan pastels.

A few flat flowers added at the hole and secured with an eyelet. Some ribbon and fibres to finish. Simple, as I said.

Fire and Ice

Oh my. Is it really a week since I last blogged anything. I haven't been idle..... honest. It's because I'm working on a project that is taking some time to complete. As well as this -- my project for week two of the Fire and Ice challenge over at Smudgy Antics. The competition is wide open still for the next 6 days.
I altered a bottle for this project. Made it into a candle holder. Well there's fire for you. Wait, there's more....

 The bottle was coated in gesso before wrapping with hessian (burlap) strips. Some copper wire threaded with red bicone beads and steel wire with blue and clear beads was wrapped around. Then left to dry off a bit before adding the next bits.

 This is the fire goddess from the Smeared Ink rubber Elementals set

and this is the water goddess from the same set.
My stamping medium - well that's hot glue. I made a large puddle, using yellow and red for fire and blue and clear for the ice, onto a piece of baking paper on my heat resistant mat.then pressed my stamp into the hot glue and let it all cool down. No, the stamp is not damaged. I've seen this done with clear stamps and they weren't harmed either. The advantage here is that the glue panel is flexible unlike UTEE. The fire goddess was give a wipe over with copper pan pastel and the ice panel with silver perfect pearls. Then sprayed with hairspray to set.
Some holes made in the panels and joined with more copper wire. More pan pastels in copper and blue sponged onto the hessian. Some firey red and icy blue and white flowers added for more interest before adding the candle.
Simple but very messy. I had a ball!!

Fire and Ice with Smudgy Antics

Smudgy Antics has a new challenge starting today.

FIRE AND ICE

We want to see how you interpret this. The DT have come up with a few ideas, but we want to be inspired by you as well.

I made a simple AJ page using two of the images from the Elemental Goddesses set.

For those lucky people in the Smeared Ink Rubber Club, these stamps should be hitting your doorsteps very soon if they haven't already done so.
Fire and water were the images chosen. Coloured with promarkers before given their separate treatments.
The Fire Goddess was burnt round the edges. An obvious procedure I think. The frozen water goddess was sealed first with Decoart sealer before painting on Rock Candy. When this was dry some weathered wood DI sponged on lightly and another coat of sealer.
The paper used is digital from Smeared Ink's "Slasher" set.  The colour was altered digitally diagonally before printing.
Cut to size 8"x8" to fit in my journal. The "Fire" word is from the same Elementals set the "Ice" is just a set of  alphabet stamps I have.

It looks simple now I look at it again.

Good morning folks. How are we all? Nearly at the finish line - I can see it.......just! In amongst the mess of papers, stamps and other paraphernalia that is now my craft room.
Today's post is all about the start of the second week of the Smudgy Antics fortnightly challenge.
The challenge is to create a project using at least three of these colours ....

Before I go on, I must thank Suzanne for her timely inspiration. "Only something that was picked up on pinterest" but it helped me out no end with the finishing touch here.

 This started life as a simple jar. Orange paint on the inside to colour. Mixed with a bit of glitter - Thanks LB for that idea. The outside has been surrounded with stamped images from the Smeared Ink "As Death" set, stamped onto tissue paper and applied with glow-in-the-dark modpodge. The four plates fit just nicely round the jar. 

The top has various fibres wound round.

Taken in the dark with the battery operated tealight "lit". OOps a bit of camera shake there.

My "Death Angel" created from one of these

The legs and shoulders were heated gently with my heat gun so they could be bent. Added feathers and stitched a hooded cloak made from cobweb lace. 

Suspended from the rib cage is the tealight using clear nylon thread. This solves a dual problem - keeping the Death Angel in place and as a means of accessing the tealight to turn it on and off.

As promised yesterday I have a double bill for you today.
It's the start of a new challenge over at Smudgy Antics and the second week of the one at Haunted Design House. Normally I would have a post each for my DT pieces for these two challenges but, as this is the 31 Days of Hallowe'en, I have decided to combine them into one.

First up Smudgy Antics. The challenge this next fortnight is a colour challenge.

Dark Grey, Magenta, Dark Green, Black and Dark Orange

For my project this week I continue with my Fat Book of Smeared Ink's  Creepy Li'l Grumpies.

This week featuring

Frankie and our little Super Hero

The FB page was covered with black gesso and texture added. When nearly dry, Frankie was stamped into it. This created the slight hollow to house the image. This in real life looks like he is emerging from the pit.

While letting the gesso fully dry the image was stamped, coloured with promarkers and fussy cut out. The scars are coloured with magenta gel pen. When the gesso was dry a light rub over with versamark and some pan pastels lightly brushed over then sealed with hair spray. I used glossy accents to attach Frankie then added brads in the required colours. Some copper wire was wound round (electricity and Frankie go together, don't they?)

Next up our little Trick or Treater all dressed up. Again coloured with promarkers before cutting out and adhering to the FB page base of dark orange coredinations. This had been embossed with a couple of folders I have and the raised part - more pan pastels. The little honeycomb of papers are from Carta Bella - Happy Hauntings stack. The bead letters threaded onto a jewellery pin and connected with brads.

Colours here are dark orange, black, grey and magenta.

One more Grumpie to feature.

This card features Dracula Summoned from the new images drawn by Abigail Larson for the Limited edition Steampunk collection.

 Sorry about the picture quality. Taking pics at night does not provide the best light.
Base paper is from DCWV - Heirloom stack. Then there's lace, some velvet and satin ribbons. The lilac sheer fabric to simulate the image curtains over flowing is  just a length from stash, twisted and adhered before glueing the image down with pinflair glue.

 The image mounted onto some embossed and sanded coredinations.

The sentiment made up of individual letters, stamped with stazon onto parchment type paper. Torn out and adhered to the lace.

I have another tag for you today. Not so simple but great fun to do. Just took a bit of masking to achieve.
It is the second week of the Smudgy Antics challenge. The theme for this is

ALL SMEARED INK

Whatever project you submit must be made using only Smeared Ink Stamps. If you're lucky you'll have previously joined the Smeared Ink Rubber Club and have loads to choose from any way. If you aren't, all is not lost because there are loads of digital stamps available in the shop as well.

The tag uses three of the images from the Haunted Places rubber stamp sets. Yet another set drawn by Rick St Dennis exclusively for Smeared Ink.
Masking the front two images to place the third then masking that to apply the distress inks for the sky and foreground. All the images were coloured with promarkers. The word "Haunted" is stamped using the credit bit on the stamp set - the bit that gets overlooked very often and thrown away by some.

So whilst you are making those projects for 31 days of Hallowe'en, spare a couple of minutes and come link up those All Smeared Ink projects so we can all see them.

It's day 7 - wow a week gone by already!! Today's post shares equal billing with the start of a new challenge over at Smudgy Antics. The theme for this next fortnight is

ALL SMEARED INK

Whatever project you submit must be made using only Smeared Ink Stamps. If you're lucky you'll have previously joined the Smeared Ink Rubber Club and have loads to choose from any way. If you aren't, all is not lost because there are loads of digital stamps available in the shop as well.

I made some little sweet/gift boxes from the cardboard inner tube of that good old faithful - toilet tissue. 

These happen to be covered with a selection of papers from the Smeared Ink shop as well. 
Stamps used are the spiders from the discontinued Killer Bo-Peep rubber set, (LOVE these spiders!!) Window  and raven from Holy City I and the snakes from one of the Rick St Dennis collections - Voodoo. Yes - Mr Rick designs for the Smeared Ink Rubber club as well.

You want to know how? It's really simple
(I got the idea from pinterest somewhere in my travels a while ago)
Take one cardboard inner tube and flatten.
mark and cut as seen here. (I used the inside of a roll of tape as a guide)

next fold in along the marked lines (approx)

Cover and decorate as you wish.

So whilst you're making for the 31 days of Hallowe'en hop - don't forget to make an "ALL SMEARED INK" project and enter into the challenge at Smudgy Antics.

Broken Heart

The new challenge over at Smudgy Antics this week is

BROKEN HEART

We have all been there...crying our eyes out because somebody we loved broke our hearts. If you haven't had a broken heart, I'm sure you helped one of your best friends mend their broken heart or watched your children get their hearts broken. This fortnight we want you ladies and gents to create a project depicting a broken heart or being broken hearted.
How will you show what a broken heart means to you

I made an art journal page. Or rather I started one. There's still something missing on this for me. Time unfortunately  ran away from me and this is it so far.

I have used tissue paper covered gesso as my base. Whilst it was still wet, I randomly stamped the "Broken Heart" from the Smeared Ink Rubber Club December set, "Heart Wings" over it. I began to hate the drying time needed.
In the meantime I made a mould of the same rubber stamp using toilet tissue and water. More to dry before I could do more.

A paint wash was applied to the main page and the stamped images picked out with a greeny blue wash. The whole thing was dry brushed with copper to pick out the top ridges. The toilet tissue heart was cut out and carefully painted with the same wash as the base. The valleys formed by the stamp ridges picked out with blue paint. The whole thing then sealed with distress stickles.
some orange cordage adhered to the stamped heart shapes but making sure the ends did not meet - they are broken after all.
The text stamps "Love" (crossed out) "Broken" and "Heart" have been heat embossed in black.
Tip to self - make sure every thing is totally dry before carrying out the heat embossing - the heat applied to the not quite dry gesso has caused the text lines to "separate". I'll have to cover this with something and re-apply the text. We live and learn. That's what AJs are all about, isn't it. Trying new techniques.

Get Embellishing - With Smudgy Antics

Week one of the challenge over at Smudgy Antics. This next two weeks we're making it super easy for you all. The only thing you must have on your project, apart from a stamped image (real or digi) is embellishments. We're not even going to tell you what embellishments to use. It's preferred that you come out of that comfy box but, even if you feel you can't, we're not going to stop wanting to see your art.
Even I have gone all cute - in a Grumpie kind of way. A little mini meander book, featuring our little friends getting all dressed up for the up-and-coming Hallowe'en season. constructed from a 12"x12" piece of brown card.
The set I have is rubber from Smeared Ink's Rubber Club. Sorry, the digi format is no longer available.

So far I've only got three pages finished, sorry but these are they.

The front cover

 embellished with a gauze bandage, ric-rak felt and a sticky plaster.

The book has integral pockets that will hold little tags and/or photos of my grandchildren when they go trick or treating. 

The papers used so far are from Echo Park, My Minds Eye and Carta Bella. The images were stamped with memento and coloued with promarkers except the Mummy - he was stamped with stazon onto gauze and just cut out. All embellies are from stash.

It's ATC time at Smudgy Antics

The start of a new challenge today over at Smudgy Antics, Really simple - make an ATC. A 2.5"x3.5" piece of art. What could be simpler than that? The hardest thing about it is choosing the stamps you'll use.
I chose 4 of the smaller stamps in the "Morte" rubber set and one of the larger for the background. Fabulous images drawn by Rick St Dennis exclusively for the Smeared Ink Rubber Club. I'm eagerly awaiting the second set and there are a further two sets coming out as well. More about them later.
My ATC

Some paper piecing and a lot of fussy cutting here. The goblet and the bottle in the foreground were stamped onto vellum. The goblet's skull was cut from cream coloured card 3 times, each layer slightly smaller and layered up. The decanter - the liquid was cut from some green paper and layered behind and the skull on top layered on top. Gold miri card cut for the decanter's stand. The candle on the skull at the back is also layered up. The trio of decanters cut from another scrap. The wall of skulls stamped onto the ATC them distress inked before layering my pieces onto the ATC.

 This shows the layers better.
Some small gems (3mm and 1mm) glued to the goblet where the stamp has them depicted.

Burnt Offerings

No, I didn't burn the dinner. This is the theme of the challenge over at Smudgy Antics for the next 2 weeks.
The blurb on the blog is more eloquent than I can manage so I'll just c&p it here.

You may interpret the challenge theme anyway you choose.  For those attempting to use actual flame of some sort please use common sense and have a basin of water nearby as well a fire-extinguisher.  We don't want any injuries or burnt down homes in the making of your burnt offering projects.

Examples of Burnt Offerings include, but are not limited to, the following:

Burn the edging of your cardstock or a portion of your project.

Use a soot stamping technique.

Use a wood burning tool in some fashion on your project.

Use your heat gun to scorch areas of your project. 

Also acceptable, especially for the accident prone folks, are the following:

Use a faux Burnt technique.

Add faux flames to your project.

I'm sure there are other things, but I'll let you folks decide what to do.

My project this week - well to put it mildly, was beset by catastrophe. To the point when I went to seal it, my can sprayed out in a single spluttering stream and ruined the images. Back to the drawing board and a quicky make. Something I was going to do anyway but not quite yet, to make the covers for my fatbook pages that were made last week during the week-long Smudgefest.
So here we have them.
The technique I used was "Soot-stamping" and I have done a tutorial for this in the Smeared & Smudged forum.
The stamps used are from the Smeared Ink Zombie Graveyard for the alphabet and the As Death sets.

The DP is from Pink Paisley's Hocus Pocus collection. The letters were attached with and further coated with modpodge.

The back

The DP here is from the BoBunny weekend market collection. The frame has been sitting in my stash for a while and this seemed the ideal project to use it on.

Challenges 4 Everybody - Anything Goes

Smudgefest day 7 Finale

Evening all. I hope you are all sitting comfortably.

It's day 7 of the week long Smeared and Smudged Smudgefest being held over at Smudgy Antics this week. A week when each person has but one day to create a project and link it back to the blog after being told that day's challenge.

Today it's The Final Challenge. 

An image was supplied free just for today on the Smudgy Antics blog and a project was to be made using the specified image.

Another fat book page from me - 6 out of 7 days isn't bad.

I weaved different papers to form my BG then over stamped with some TH Hallowe'en stamps.

The image was printed out 5 times and decoupaged up. My melting pot has been "tidied away" and so second best option taken. Triple layered heat embossing with ordinary clear powder.

A little pumpkin from my stash and this toffee apple with a hint of devilment is ready for his audience.

What's a week long challenge extravaganza without a sketch challenge? Nothing, I tell ya! So, here it is...please use the sketch below as inspiration for your project. It does not have to be exact, but we must be able to tell that you got your idea from the sketch.

Well that's the brief. From me - another fatbook page. I will get this filled with this week's extravaganza.

The BP is from my bit box. The paper is from Delicious Doodles as a downloadable digi paper. One of many, this one is the Swirly Hearts.  Thank goodness for bit boxes. My pc is "not well" The hard drive is dead and I'm working on the bare minimum here and haven't got my normal programs installed on this temp machine. A scrap of (I think) MME for the image to rest on. That is, in fact, two images - masked one on top of each other. Both from the Morte Rubber set from Smeared Ink. Stamped in latte ink and coloured with promarkers and golden highlights with metallic markers.
The Cross and chain., lace and metal lacy corner in stash. The filigree corner started out as a bright silver colour but my inky fingers tell a tale of the alcohol inks used to colour it.
That's about it.
Back to this errant pc of mine to try and find the programs I need to install.

Today it's

FLOWING FRIDAY

Create a project using a flowing medium. Some examples could be watercolor, liquid ink, liquid glues, thinned out acrylics, etc.... use your imagination and let the juices flow!

Another fatbook page has emerged from my crafty area for today's challenge. Even if I don't have a full weeks worth - I can insert pics of the other day's projects. (eg yesterday's ATC)

I used water colours and inks to colour my image.

This is the water Nymph from the Smeared Ink Nymph rubber set in my collection. The link is to the digi as the rubber is now unavailable. I stamped her using green stazon, inkeeping with my colour scheme.
Coloured, as I said with water colours and then dipped in watered down distress ink. Finally spritzed it with water and let it run.
The background is the secondary paint transfer from when I was creating my BG on Wednesday with my gelli plate.

image dry, I secured some fibres to the base and overlaid with the image. The shells are from stash. A touch of glitter.
Done.

Smudgefest - Day 3

Evening all. I hope you are all sitting comfortably.
It's day 3 of the week long Smeared and Smudged Smudgefest being held over at Smudgy Antics this week. A week when each person has but one day to create a project and link it back to the blog after being told that day's challenge.

Today the Challenge : WICKED WEDNESDAY

"It's a colour challenge! Use these wicked colours to create your project for today."

Well here they look like Burnt Umber, Mint Green, Lime Green, Bottle Green and Powder Blue. Later in the day the names of the colours were described as Brown, Seafoam, Lime Green, Black, Sky Blue. So I was quite close. There was black ink used so I hope that covers it.

I made yet another fatbook page. This way I can have all projects for the week gathered in one place.
The image - so many to choose from! My son chose the Smeared Ink Grumpies.  I had no problem with that.
I stamped the images on the required coloured card and fussy cut them out. Made a base paper using my gelli plate. Then started the gluing process. Oh and a die cut fence with an arch - trimmed to size.

Today the Challenge:

TERRIFYING TUESDAY

Create a project that showcases your favourite scary Smeared Ink image. Go ahead, pull out all the stops and give us the willies!


Which stamp to choose? Had to think hard. In the end I went for one of the Zombies from the "Build a Zombie" rubber set. To add that extra bit(e) I had him trying to get in the window depicted in another of the stamps available. This one is from the Morte set (as drawn by Rick St Dennis and exclusive to Smeared Ink Rubber Club)

I stamped the window image onto acetate as well so that I could add the glass at the windows

The images were coloured with promarkers before all the fussy cutting was done.
