Dimensional Hallowe'en with HDH

Morning everyone. I hope the day brings everything you wish for. It's nearly the start of the mega Hallowe'en bash and, to get you all in the mood, the challenge at Haunted Design House is to go truly 3-D.

DIMENSIONAL HALLOWE'EN

Pop dots are ok - but get those creative juices really working and get those projects really 3-D.
The rest of the minions are and have been beavering away to show you what we mean. We have a wonderful sponsor this fortnight - TANDO CREATIVE - with a terrific prize to be had for the winner.

For my project, I used a shoe box, well one part of it. I made a little graveyard scene with some of the Tando gravestones and tree cutouts, oh, and a spider, a digi stamp from fellow Minion, Teri's Delicious Doodles range called The Graveyard. all teamed up with some skully fairy lights

First the Tando Creative cutouts were painted with acrylics. Whist drying, cut holes in the shoe box for the lights, constructed a base for the Tando cutouts  to be adhered to and affixed The Graveyard pic to the back.
The box was covered with black paper to hide the wiring of the lights and help keep them in place.
Now the extra fun part.....
The smaller cut outs were adhered towards the back with the larger at the front. Hence giving the illusion of even more depth. The spider webs on the trees were painted white then with glow-in-the-dark paint mixed with a bit of glitter. Some orange gems stuck on behind the owls' eyes.

I used two different coloured green flocking for the areas below the gravestones.

Inspired by a Song

Good afternoon everyone.
My weekly visit to Through The Purple Haze challenges. This means I'm still in for the running for the MEGA prize at the end of the year. Hanging in there - YESSSSSSS.

This week the theme is "Inspired By a Song/Book/Film/Cartoon"
Now when I saw that theme, and I have no idea why, the silliest song popped into my head. Little Boxes!
"Little Boxes" is a song written by Malvina Reynolds in 1962, which became a hit for her friend Pete Seeger in 1963. All made out of  "Ticky-Tacky".
Mine don't look exactly the same but they're made from the same free paper pad that came with a magazine at some point and have been taking up room in a drawer since. I do think they're rather tacky and could not bring myself to use them on a card for example. One big advantage - they're already cut to 6" squares. Ideal for making origami boxes. All 24 of them to make an advent calendar for my Grandson.

All the boxes were lined with a small piece of card covering the base and the front side after attaching a brad drawer handle. They were then linked up with folded card with more of the same to go all round after fashioning a top and back to make it look a bit like a house. This also meant I could add a little sentiment.

 Peeloffs - again from my long forgotten (and never used in the last 2 yrs) stash and ribbons to make it look like a present.

Each of the drawers will contain a small gift of some sort, one drawer per day in December leading up to one of his favourite days of the year when Santa might deliver some pressies.

There we have it. Not my usual kind of make - but useful - it will be.

Broken Heart

The new challenge over at Smudgy Antics this week is

BROKEN HEART

We have all been there...crying our eyes out because somebody we loved broke our hearts. If you haven't had a broken heart, I'm sure you helped one of your best friends mend their broken heart or watched your children get their hearts broken. This fortnight we want you ladies and gents to create a project depicting a broken heart or being broken hearted.
How will you show what a broken heart means to you

I made an art journal page. Or rather I started one. There's still something missing on this for me. Time unfortunately  ran away from me and this is it so far.

I have used tissue paper covered gesso as my base. Whilst it was still wet, I randomly stamped the "Broken Heart" from the Smeared Ink Rubber Club December set, "Heart Wings" over it. I began to hate the drying time needed.
In the meantime I made a mould of the same rubber stamp using toilet tissue and water. More to dry before I could do more.

A paint wash was applied to the main page and the stamped images picked out with a greeny blue wash. The whole thing was dry brushed with copper to pick out the top ridges. The toilet tissue heart was cut out and carefully painted with the same wash as the base. The valleys formed by the stamp ridges picked out with blue paint. The whole thing then sealed with distress stickles.
some orange cordage adhered to the stamped heart shapes but making sure the ends did not meet - they are broken after all.
The text stamps "Love" (crossed out) "Broken" and "Heart" have been heat embossed in black.
Tip to self - make sure every thing is totally dry before carrying out the heat embossing - the heat applied to the not quite dry gesso has caused the text lines to "separate". I'll have to cover this with something and re-apply the text. We live and learn. That's what AJs are all about, isn't it. Trying new techniques.

New RSD rubber

I couldn't think of another title for this post other than to describe what I'm showing. The new rubber stamps issued in September from Smeared Ink's Rubber Club.

I have been lucky, as a member of the Smeared Ink DT to have these images sent in digi format but these will not be available in the shop, You'll have to join the rubber club to get these. For my project I used the skull topped archway, gravestone and that house perched on the crags. I also used two of Smeared Ink's new digi papers from the "Honor the dead range". These come in both 12"x12" and A4 format and so very handy to resize to fit any project.
Enough of my waffle,

I used the back of a box canvas to make this.
After a quick coat of gesso to seal, the papers were stuck on and some "lightening" bolts added with silver gel pen.
The images - they were all coloured with promarkers, mostly in shades of grey with just a few shades of brown and green here and there.

I forgot to scan them before fussy cutting and adding to the canvas. I can never capture every aspect of 3-D work in just a couple of piccies unfortunately.

Gems and Bling! with Delicious Doodles

Morning all you beautiful people.
Weather update from chilly Scotland - It's STOPPED raining hahaha. Snow has been seen on the hills and yes it is only September! I told you it was chilly.
I digress
There's a new challenge started over a Delicious Doodles. This week is all about the bling.

GEMS AND BLING!

I chose to re-start on my Christmas card collection. I'm more likely to send a blingy card at that time of year.

The Delicious Doodles images I chose in the end were Christmas Lantern,
Christmas Holly border and on the inside, Christmas scroll border

Some green spotty paper from my  miscellaneous paper stash, matted onto pearlised gold. Some red dotty embossed core-dinations. Instead on sanding back, I lightly rubbed a glue pad over it and then applied gilding flakes. That big red bow is rescued packaging ribbon from some choccies. I just made a couple of loops with it and threaded through a ribbon embellishment. A couple of TH die cut pine sprigs cut from packaging chipboard and heat embossed with green frantage. The sentiment was stamped onto shrink plastic and threaded through with narrow red satin ribbon. 3 tiny gems added to the top corner.

 The other border image has been used inside in order that a message can be written. If you look carefully, you'll see that the lantern image has been decoupaged.

Both the borders were coloured with glittery gel pens. The lantern image coloured with promarkers.

Fly Like the Wind

I thought I'd best get my entry for Through The Purple Haze challenge in early this week. I hope to continue in this weekly marathon until at least Christmas to be in with a chance of their MEGA draw. Blinging things normally has me in a panic if I have to think about it too long. I never know how much is enough to qualify as "Bling it up". I hope this suffices.

The colours that I chose have been determined by the quadruple of colours over at Chromatic Craze.

So the red card base was cut and folded in as a stepper card. Pale blue matting under some orange (with text) DP from the Authentique "Enchanted" pad. Some lime green lace and ribbons to complete the colour range.  The sentiments are digis from TLC and Ginger's house. Bling from stash.

The image panel - that saucy witch is one of the latest from the pen of Rick St Dennis. Katie the Pin-up Witch. Coloured with promarkers in lime green, orange, blue and red. She was then masked off and a paper artsy text stamped in pale blue and a TH web in orange for a background. and edge distressed with shabby shutters DI before matting onto lime green and orange card. The green webs were die cut from green coredinations and glittered up with patina and crystal stickles. These were sandwiched between the card base and the image panel.

A trio of glittery spiders added and finished.

Who Are You Supposed To Be?

I'm taking the title of my post from that of the new challenge started today over at Haunted Design House. Why not? It's better than my cold be-fuddled brain can come up with right now. The challenge is

 You are to create a dark, Gothic, or Hallowe'en 

based art piece that depicts a costume or

character you have been, or want to be for Hallowe'en.  

Isn't there that one costume you always remember

fondly from your childhood? Or maybe that one character 

you've always wished you had the guts 

(or the money, or the body)

to portray at this year's costume party?

We have chosen to work with the new Hallowe'en images

designed by Rick St. Dennis.

I chose to use Steampunk Peg. Not coloured in the normal brown tones I might have done if this were "normal" Steampunk, but in black, greys and purples as befits the Halloween season. 

Some of you might be interested to know what's been used here. First - there are no designer papers used, just diecuts and dry embossing on the actual tag base. The attached TH cogs were dry embossed with a cog folder to the tag base embossed with a watches folder. Some black DI brushed over lightly. 

The top is decorated with black and different shades of purple drippy goo punch outs. Some black lace added and some eyelets punched. The eyelets were threaded through with black satin ribbon that also held in place the charms chosen.

Peg herself was coloured with promarkers and fussy cut out. The tulle of her hat given a light dusting of DI to remove the white glare.

The wings from the Smeared Ink,Quoth the Raven rubber set were heat embossed in black on more purple card and some black feathers stuck behind. Peg was attached to these. 

Some more tulle was added to Peg's hat before attaching her to my tag.

If I could - yes I'd do the whole Steampunk "Thing". LOVE the clothing although it could not be on a full time basis for me, unfortunately.

"Fallen" for you

Morning everyone.
I don't know how many of you remember back a couple of months when Rick St Dennis released some really cute scarecrows just ready for the autumnal season or as my US followers would say - Fall. Well this little guy never actually found a home at the time and whilst I was leafing through my pre-coloured images he fell out - as if to say "MY turn". Who am I to go against fate?
Here he is, coloured with promarkers.

The papers are from last year's My MindsEye" Halloween collection, mattted onto some pearlised bronze paper.
A scrap of hessian/burlap with some bundles of rafia, a trio of buttons and a little sentiment stamped using Stazon to complete.

'Tis the Season

My weekly challenge that I am trying to keep taking part in, due to the chance of winning a MASSIVE prize at the end of the year for competing is that of Through the Purple Haze Challenges. This week is sketchy week. To make a project with the following sketch as inspiration.

I had two goes at this. The first, although I followed the sketch, wasn't exactly out of this world.
A Christmas card for my stack.

The stamps used are both Indigo Blu, the snow flake on the green circle was stamped with glue and gilding flakes applied after masking off the sentiment that is also gilded. The little snowman was stamped with green stazon onto parchment. The paper is from my miscellaneous  "Christmas papers" box.. The punched snowflakes are double layered, punched from scraps and topped with the same vellum as the snowman. Some tiny gems, fibres and ribbon from stash. All adhered to a 6" card blank that was edged with DI.

My second attempt - still following the same basic sketch but with my own interpretations added.

A Hallowe'en card therefore still seasonal.

 A "Spring Card" where the base and centre panels are folded to allow the card front to spring up.
The bats have taken the place of the "vertical ribbon" The die cut fence is instead of the broader horizontal band. The three "spots" on the right are charms - an owl, a howling wolf and a tiny flying witch. The four "spots" on the right of the sketch are two pins from a flower and a little gem. Ok, I added another trio of gems to balance and the base has a couple of extra flowers for decoration, but then the sketch is only a starting point after all. The paper is from a DCWV stack "La Creme"

The central image is from Delicious Doodles - the Gravestone Scene. Attached to a cream coloured circle that has been ink distressed with black soot. The sentiment is from Prickly Pear as are the bats. The spider web over the sentiment is part of a Lavinia stamp.

Hi everyone.
I know most of you partake of the crafty blog challenges that are rife through blogland, either in wordpress, blogger or even some of the many forums around. For many of us the ultimate listing has always been Paper Playful. Did you know that there's a new listing available.

Get Embellishing - With Smudgy Antics

Week one of the challenge over at Smudgy Antics. This next two weeks we're making it super easy for you all. The only thing you must have on your project, apart from a stamped image (real or digi) is embellishments. We're not even going to tell you what embellishments to use. It's preferred that you come out of that comfy box but, even if you feel you can't, we're not going to stop wanting to see your art.
Even I have gone all cute - in a Grumpie kind of way. A little mini meander book, featuring our little friends getting all dressed up for the up-and-coming Hallowe'en season. constructed from a 12"x12" piece of brown card.
The set I have is rubber from Smeared Ink's Rubber Club. Sorry, the digi format is no longer available.

So far I've only got three pages finished, sorry but these are they.

The book has integral pockets that will hold little tags and/or photos of my grandchildren when they go trick or treating. 

The papers used so far are from Echo Park, My Minds Eye and Carta Bella. The images were stamped with memento and coloued with promarkers except the Mummy - he was stamped with stazon onto gauze and just cut out. All embellies are from stash.

In Your Face - Halloween with HDH

Morning everyone.
Week two of the Haunted Design House challenge, sponsored by The Octopode Factory, has begun. Lily has graciously donated the Gloomsville images to allow the Minions to create with. Awesome or what!
"Surprise me!" I said when they were being distributed and was excited to receive the set of three Ghosts and Vampira, the voluptuous vampyre.
The challenge itself is

Halloween in your face!

You are to create a dark, Gothic, or Hallowe'en based art 
piece to start celebrating for the upcoming holiday by making it 

all about Halloween, colours and images, etc. 

I made a couple of decorations.
The first is take two. My original plan of stuffed fabric ghosts did not go to plan. When I painted them with glow-in-the-dark mod podge they went very grey looking and not pleasing to my eye. In the end I made them from just plain white card and painted this with the glow-in-the-dark. Unfortunately, the pics I tried to take did not come out well at all. You'll have to take my word for it that they look kinda spooky. Floating green tinged ghosts in my hallway. During the day they reflect any sunlight around due to the beads attached to give them some weight.

There are nine "ghosts" in three sizes. Wire sandwiched between the two layers so that they could be suspended and for the bead weights to be attached. The spider web suspension frame is part of a Hallowe'en decoration from last year. It's a wooden die cut that was painted with florescent orange paint.

My second piece is an altered CD

 More colour in this as you can see. The word "FACE" kept haunting me. What else has a face? A clock. I nearly made this into a clock actually but changed my mind at the last minute.
The CD was covered with card that I had stamped a "Melting Clock" stamp (Cherry Pie) onto and dry embossed with a "clocks and watches" folder. I could only fit eight images on and this influenced my change of plans although there are twelve holes punched.

Brushed with Spiced Marmalade and Rusty Hinge DI and then painted with rock candy for a cracked finish.

Green organza ribbon wound round doubles up as the hanger. Some purple satin ribbon stapled on and some tiny watches stamped onto lilac card, cut out and glued in pace. Our Vamp was coloured with promarkers, cut out and glued into place with pinflair silicon glue.

Morning folks.
I hope you have all regained peace and quiet after the school holidays. The schools re-opened their doors a few weeks ago in Scotland, but I know that some schools are only just starting the new term. I remember the frantic uniform buying like it was only yesterday - my little devils darlings are a few years too old for that now **happy dance**. How many of those sparkly new uniforms are going to last until 2014? How many patches will be needed in those knees?
There are, of course, some of you that don't have children; but you were one once. To remind us of those days gone by and, for some, those days yet to pass; a couple of cheeky images from Rick St Dennis MFA.

Now, if you are a subscriber to Rick's Newsletter, you will have received this gorgeous pair of angels, well Bitsy isn't showing her best side right this moment, but she is/looks like an angel when asleep. Colour it up with Delicious Doodles

Morning peeps.
Delicious Doodles are back in full swing after the summer break, although the challenges have been ongoing - a few of the DT have been having a well earned holiday. The first challenge of the season is a

COLOUR challenge. 

We want to see plenty of PURPLE, TURQUOISE and GOLD in those projects.

Used throughout is cardstock in purple, turquoise and pearlised gold.
The image I have used one of the Horrorscope images - the Serpent Bearer

The dimension added can be seen better here.

Plenty of die cutting - not only the image base and it's golden mat but also the interlocking chain of purple, turquoise and pearlised gold under that. The die cut chain was mounted onto another shade of purple onto which was first stamped a serpent-like spring (creative expressions). Stamped with glue and gold Perfect Pearls brushed over. The chain created by cutting open each square cut, linking up and re-sealing the die-cut.
The centre squares left over were not wasted. Some were used to convey my sentiment. Letters individually stamped in the absence of other suitable stamps. Hugs - well it looks to me like the man and serpent are hugging. Certainly a close relationship.

Evening all. Firstly my apologies to the girls at Desert Island Crafts challenge for my tardiness. I simply had the dates all wrong on my calendar and therefore my head. I thank you all for giving me the opportunity of being a guest designer.

My card for this incorporates items 1, 3, 8, 9 and there's a tiny bit of 10 as well.
The image I used is the sister of the Vampyr used yesterday on the candle. This femme fatale is called Vampyr Masquerade.

I've worked with Hallowe'en/bruise colours and mirrored these in the card stocks used in all the layering. The image was coloured primarily with promarkers but there are areas that watered perfect pearls have been used to highlight and the little red mark on the black widow - that's glitter pen.

 First there's a purple base. Then a couple of dry embossed layers of spiders. These were distressed with black ink after rubbing on some metallic rub on wax. Next - five different colours used for the spider web die cuts.

Sentiments are from Prickly Pear stamped onto the same cs and die cut out.
The ribbon - orange and green organza with thin black satin woven through and pearls adhered at the junction. More pearls on the sentiments and card as seen.

A Bit of Halloween Fun with Rick

Hi everyone.  We of the RSD EDT thought we'd give you a touch of inspiration for making your Fall/Hallowe'en projects, maybe a bit of Thanksgiving thrown in for you U.S. peeps. After all Hallowe'en is getting very close, only a couple of months to go and you'll need to be prepared for all those trick or treaters.

The talented DT ladies decided on a couple of group posts using of course Rick St. Dennis MFA's pretty and more cutesy images on Sparkle and Glitter and the scarier images on the Airless Chambers blog. Lots to see, something for everyone's tastes, we hope you will enjoy.

The RSD gang have been thinking about organizing bloghops, you will all be invited to join if you'd like to, and there will be prizes to win. The hops will be on both our blogs, but we think two bloghops a month might be a bit too much, so we were thinking to do a hop on Sparkle and Glitter one month and a hop on Airless Chambers the next.

I started off as a kind of rusty grey colour. I removed the broken panes of glass and cleaned it up. Then gave it a couple of coats of a florescent orange paint. Then sponged two coats lightly over it. Terracotta and burnt sienna.
The image is called Trick or Treat.
Printed onto my normal card, coloured in with promarkers and scanned into the PC.

Ready for printing onto vellum. I needed the material to allow light through.

 Some stability added to the vellum using some black textured card

and the door did not go unadorned. A black cat stamped into a die cut. (Prickly Pear) The bats round the other sides are also from Prickly Pear

Using the new Vampyr Masquerade Male image

again scanned into my pc after colouring on my normal card. This time printed onto tissue paper. The tissue was temporarily adhered to a plain sheet of copier paper to act as a carrier.
When printed, it was cut out and heat set into a candle.

Some red paper was cut with my "drippy goo" edge punch and adhered to the candle. The glistening blood effect being achieved by using red stickles.
